"I honestly believe that I learned more during my summer with the Osgood Center than I have in 3+ years of learning in the college classroom. Having the opportunity to hear from such a variety of speakers (both during and prior to the summer institute) whom represented such a wide scale of professions and perspectives not only gave me insight into many relevant issues; but also challenged the way I view certain issues, and my ability to think critically. Meanwhile, having such caring and thorough supervisors helped to clarify any questions I had and pushed me to continuously dig deeper. Overall, spending the summer with the Osgood Center delving into concepts I am passionate about in such an applicable manor and setting helped me to put things into perspective and become serious (and very excited) about my own personal future in the field."

-Carrington, The University of Alabama

"Going into the experience at the Osgood Institute was a little scary because I wasn't sure what to expect. I knew going in that it was going to be as good of an experience as I was going to make, but I didn't realize how easy that would be. The speakers that come to speak are top notch and are accessible despite their intimidating titles/reputations. It's hard to walk away cynical about DC when you see how dedicated, knowledgeable, and genuinely kind the people working on these issues are.

The staff at Osgood are so incredibly supportive they still check in on me regularly. The experiences and relationships I developed at Osgood helped prepare me for graduate school. The staff teaches you how to ask questions that challenge the thinking of established scholars. It cemented the idea in my head to question scholarship using existing scholarship. Then using the competing schools of thoughts to generate an original idea. It’s a simple enough theory, but requires experience to be done effectively. The exposure to a variety of topics makes you aware of what you are interested in researching. Papers that I wrote at Osgood have become research projects I'm working on as a graduate student."

-Joshua, Georgia State University

"The Osgood Center's Summer Institute was an immersive learning experience that I could not have received from any university. The institute allowed participants to interact with people from all over the world and visit prestigious institutions such as the World Bank and Woodrow Wilson Center. Every day we heard from guest speakers who were experts in fields such as international relations, journalism, politics, and finance. As an economics major, it was especially beneficial hearing from members of institutions such as the IMF and USTR. Not only did this program complement the education I was receiving from college, but it also helped prepare me for my career in ways that a typical classroom setting couldn’t."

-Paul, California State University, Fullerton

"When I started the Summer Institute at The Osgood Center I had a vague idea of what I enjoyed researching and learning about in the classroom but had no idea how that could transfer to a future career. Visiting organizations around DC and engaging with professionals in a variety of fields opened my eyes to the many careers I could pursue after graduation. The programmed solidified my interest in topics I had already studied, such as economic development, and introduced me to new topics, such as international security, I decided to pursue further after the program."

-Lauren, American University

REMINDER TO DONORS: If you make a charitable contribution and itemize deductions on your tax returns, you can deduct your donations "in the year made," the Internal Revenue Service says.

That means any donations you charge to a credit card before the end of a calendar year.," the IRS said in a recent news release. "This is true even if the credit-card bill isn't paid until the following year."

The IRS also said that donations by checks "count for a previous year as long as they are mailed by December 31 and clear shortly thereafter."

However, taxpayers who claim the standard deduction can't deduct charitable donations. Nearly two-thirds of all federal income-tax returns take the standard deduction, rather than itemizing.

Like all 501C3 organizations, the Osgood Center accepts donations. We pledge that all donations will go to student support either through scholarships, class or group discounts, or services (local transportation, receptions, etc). Any exceptions to this will be rare and explicitly identified to the donor.
