2021 Virtual Presidential Inauguration Program

Eugene AlpertJanuary 10-21, 2021

The Osgood Center mourns the passing of its Vice President, Eugene Alpert. An educator for 45 years, Gene was a stalwart supporter of experiential education at TCU, The Washington Center, and, for the past 5 years, the Osgood Center. This January’s Program is hereby designated as the Gene Alpert Presidential Inauguration Program.

Presidential Inauguration 2021

The Osgood Center for International Studies invites your institution to participate in a virtual academic seminar that revolves around the historic 2021 presidential inauguration. This quadrennial event is one of the most important events in American history that is celebrated by hundreds of thousands of people who come to D.C. to witness history-in-the-making. To be safe during the Covid-19 pandemic, we are offering an alternative program that will combine an academic perspective with the exciting events associated with the transition of power or the anticipation of a second term of our next president.

Reserve your space for the unique opportunity to celebrate this very special event on the National Mall and at special inaugural activities.

ORIENTATION

To prepare for the program, we will provide a videography of programs that will provide background and context for presidential inaugurations.

WEEK ONE

Osgood Center speaker sessions are scheduled Monday through Friday. Speakers each morning will include experts in the history and traditions of presidential inaugurations, political campaigns, presidential-congressional relations, politics and the media, and if relevant, presidential transitions or presidential second terms. There will also be a focus on some of the major public policy issues that the next president will likely face in the next four years.

WEEK TWO

Monday, January 18 is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We will have some speakers who will address the historical and present significance of the day. Tuesday is being left open for now, so as not to conflict with any public inaugural events that might be viewed on C-SPAN. Wednesday, January 20 is the day of the inauguration, the inaugural parade and many evening events. These are always covered by the major news outlets and C-SPAN.
